Tiina Tamm became the Professor of Molecular Biology

Since September 2019 the institute has a new professor of molecular biology, Tiina Tamm.

Tiina Tamm graduated University of Tartu. She received a Bachelor degree in Biology in 1992. She started her researcher carrier in Tallinn at Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics. At the same time she continued her studies as master and doctoral student. In 1994 she received MSc degree and in 2000 PhD degree (the thesis title „Cocksfoot mottle virus: the genome organisation and translational strategies“). From 2001 to 2015 she worked as postdoctoral researcher at University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and at Paterson Institute for Cancer Research (Manchester, UK). Since autumn 2005 Tiina Tamm has worked as a researcher and later as a senior researcher at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of Tartu. Initially she studied the role of mitochondria in regulation of yeast invasive and filamentous growth and biofilm formation. Since 2012, Tiina Tamm has focused her research on ribosome as a molecular machine. Her research helps to understand the importance of ribosomal structural elements in ribosome functioning and biogenesis in eukaryotic cells.
