The 2024 Christmas card was created by Elise Nigul, a prop and stage designer and alumna of Viljandi Culture Academy of the University of Tartu.

The Riia Gallery will showcase its first works in November 2024. It is a second independent, smaller art gallery operating alongside the Omicum Gallery. Both galleries are curated by Sulev Kuuse, the head of the vivarium at the University of Tartu Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (TÜMRI).

The University of Tartu is advancing its research on antibacterial surfaces through the European Commission-funded Twinning project, FAST-Real ("Twinning on Functional Antimicrobial Surfaces Testing and Evaluation for Real-world Performance and Sustainability").

Three thematic research and development program projects at our institute, funded for five years, will develop innovative antimicrobial surface coatings, biological plant protection agents, and will help determine the origin, composition, and safety of food using DNA analysis.

The members of the Academy elected Honorary Doctor of the University of Tartu Mart Saarma as the tenth President of the Academy.
