According to curator Sulev Kuuse, the creation of the Riia Gallery was driven by sufficient interest in using our building for art exhibitions.
Artist Eero Ijavoinen has deposited three of his recent works in the gallery: Possibility of the Afterlife (2023), The Stone of Wisdom (2023), and The Legend of the Seahorse (2024).
The gallery’s first permanent exhibition is a photo exhibition marking the 30th anniversary of the Ida Dance School. The photos adorned the school’s international anniversary concert on June 8, 2024, at the Grand Hall of the Vanemuine Theatre. Ida Dance School has graduated five classes of ballet dancers, and the exhibition features ballerinas who are currently performing professionally or have done so previously—whether with the Estonian National Opera or the ballet company of the Vanemuine Theatre.
The photos in the exhibition were taken by photographers and parents of students at the Ida Dance School, Toomas Tamm and Sulev Kuuse, who have supported the school over the years.
The gallery is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and exhibitions are free of charge. All interested visitors are welcome.
